NBC Retiree Moves to Prosser to Enjoy Wine Country
A former NBC contributor recently retired to the wine country in Eastern Washington. This is not your usual retiree. This energetic fellow is a 1996 Ford E350 tour coach or "limo bus." Newly adopted by Sunset Coach Tours, the luxury coach now shuttles wine enthusiasts about the Yakima Valley, Columbia Valley, Red Mountain, and Horse Heaven Hills wine regions.
Prosser, Washington – October 13, 2005 – This is no ordinary retiree. This exceptional NBC contributor entered the history books by being present at the 1996 Summer Olympics in Atlanta, Georgia. Many will recognize some of the famous NBC personalities that were also present at that time – Bob Costas, Greg Gumbel, Jim Lampley and Hannah Storm. Those who viewed the games saw some incredible accomplishments in summer sports. This was the year that the U.S. earned a total of 101 medals, including Michael Johnson’s stunning 200-meter victory for gold, and also the record-setting four golds won by Amy Van Dyken for women’s swimming.
During the entire two (2) week event, our newest resident worked tirelessly in the humid southern heat to provide a brief respite to his more famous peers from the climate and crowds. The retiree in question does not receive a pension and will never qualify for social security. That is because this special person is not a person at all, but a luxury tour coach. Yes, that’s right, a “bus.” This 1996 Ford E350 coach served as the VIP Lounge to numerous NBC personalities, executives and special guests.
Recently, the tour coach was purchased by Kerry and Paul Warden, owners of Sunset Coach Tours in Prosser, Washington. “We had considered several luxury coaches, but when we learned of this coach’s colorful history, we knew this was the one,” explained Kerry Warden.
Not only does this bus boast an interesting past, it also sports top of the line amenities. With plush leather seating for up to twelve (12) passengers, Sirius satellite radio, DVD/CD player and television, tinted windows, high ceilings and chauffeur-style service, this is one truly luxurious experience. Interestingly enough, the bus also still wears NBC logos on its roof, which can only be seen from an aerial perspective.
“We acquired this coach to be our flagship tour vehicle. Since we are located in Prosser, we currently provide guided tour and wine-tasting transportation services to regions throughout Yakima Valley, Red Mountain, Columbia Valley areas in and around the Tri-Cities, and the Horse Heaven Hills,” stated Paul Warden. “And, since we did not incur the expense of a brand-new coach, we actually have obtained a higher-quality vehicle at a lower cost, allowing us to provide what we call ‘affordable luxury’,” added Kerry Warden.
